this town really sucks the life outta ya. i have made friends with the guy who makes the artisan bread for the stadium (really good stuff). he is a new yorker that like to hunt. every weekend.
he knows that the adjustment is hard and he really has gotten used to it down here. i might go shooting with really soon.
anyway, they really love their mavericks down here. some people tell me they are as good as the bulls from the '90's. mr reply is simple that they are nuts. no way does this team come close to them or the celtics from the sixties.

I'm glad you brought up the Celtics from the 60's. I am no Celtic fan but was it like 11 out of 13 years they won the title with Russell? Come on, there is nothing like that in sports today. There never will be anything like that again. It is too bad that at some point, no one will talk about Bill Russell...he is already pushed to the side in most contemporary basketball conversations...
Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player ever - I won't dispute that I love Jordan...
But even though I didn't see him play I'd like to think that Bill Russell might've been the greatest winner in pro sports, period. I don't even think of Bill Russell as a Celtic, he transcends that.
I don't want to connect the importance of sport with society or any of that crap - I will leave that to others...
Just Russell's ability to win titles, esp. the story of the last Game 7 win on the road where he said he wanted the maintanence guys to take down the balloons "one at a time" - soooo fucking cool.
The next time someone says some ignorant shit like that, tell them to get back to you after the Mavs (rhymes with Cavs) win their sixth title.
